Delhi High Court PA & SPA English Typing Test Practice
This English Typing Test Practice has been specially prepared for candidates appearing for the Delhi High Court Personal Assistant and Senior Personal Assistant examinations. The Stage-I English Typing Test pattern is the same for both PA and SPA posts, therefore the same practice test series can be used for preparation for both posts. The actual typing test is conducted on a computer, and candidates are required to achieve the prescribed typing speed while maintaining accuracy. This typing stage is qualifying in nature, but a candidate must qualify it in order to proceed to the next stage of the selection process.
Typing Test Duration and Required Speed
The English Typing Test for both Personal Assistant and Senior Personal Assistant is conducted for 10 minutes. Candidates are required to achieve a minimum typing speed of 40 Words Per Minute. The typing speed is calculated on the basis of characters with space. This means that spaces are also taken into account while calculating typing performance. Therefore, candidates should not focus only on typing quickly. Correct spacing, spelling, punctuation and continuous typing flow are also important. The online practice test available on this page has been designed around the same 10-minute and 40 WPM standard so that candidates can practise in a realistic examination environment.
How Many Mistakes Are Allowed?
In the English Typing Test, a maximum of 3 percent mistakes of the total typed words are permissible. This means that candidates have to maintain both speed and accuracy. For example, if a candidate types 400 words, a 3 percent error limit would be approximately 12 mistakes. Candidates should try to remain well below the permissible error limit during practice. The result system in this practice test shows useful information such as Correct Words, Wrong Words, Missed Words, Extra Words, Gross WPM, Net WPM and Accuracy. These details help candidates identify weak areas and improve their typing performance gradually.
Meaning of Characters with Space
The official typing criteria mention calculation on the basis of characters with space. In simple terms, the characters typed by a candidate along with spaces form part of the typing count. Therefore, candidates should not judge their speed only by looking at the number of completed words. Good keyboard control, correct spacing, punctuation and uninterrupted typing are equally important. Regular practice helps candidates improve their overall typing rhythm and maintain the required speed of 40 WPM with better accuracy.
Why One Typing Test Is Suitable for Both PA and SPA
The Stage-I English Typing Test conditions for Personal Assistant and Senior Personal Assistant are the same in terms of duration, minimum typing speed, characters with space criterion and permissible mistakes. Therefore, there is no practical need to create separate English typing tests for PA and SPA. The Delhi High Court PA & SPA English Typing Test available on this page can be used by candidates preparing for either post. The major difference between the two posts appears in the shorthand stage, while the English typing stage remains common.
What Type of Typing Matter Is Used for Practice?
The practice passages are designed around the type of English commonly seen in court-related examinations. A large portion of the matter may be based on High Court judgment style, civil disputes, criminal matters, bail proceedings, property disputes, service matters, administrative proceedings, petitions, appeals, evidence, arbitration and other judicial subjects. Serious newspaper and article-style English passages may also be included to improve general vocabulary and reading flow. Judgment-style passages focus on the body of legal matter and avoid unnecessary court headers, case numbers, judge names and footers. This gives candidates more useful typing material and keeps the practice focused on actual text entry.
Legal Vocabulary and Difficulty Level
Candidates may come across legal terms such as petitioner, respondent, appellant, jurisdiction, proceedings, evidence, affidavit, application, statutory provision, competent authority, decree, judicial observation, trial court, appellate court, submission, contention and material on record. Some passages may be easy to moderate, while others may contain longer legal words and more complex sentence structures. Practising both types of content is useful because candidates should be prepared to type ordinary English as well as formal court language without losing accuracy.
Highlight Option in the Practice Test
Text highlighting is kept disabled by default in this typing software. The purpose is to help candidates develop the habit of typing without depending on visual error assistance. However, an optional highlight feature is available for users who want additional help during early-stage practice. If the user enables highlighting, it can help identify incorrect characters while typing. Since this is only a practice aid, candidates are encouraged to gradually practise without highlight so that they become comfortable in a more exam-like environment.
Senior Personal Assistant Selection Process
After qualifying the English Typing Test, Senior Personal Assistant candidates have to appear for the English Shorthand Test. The prescribed shorthand speed is 110 words per minute. A 550-word passage is dictated in 5 minutes, followed by 45 minutes for transcription on a computer. This stage carries 120 marks and up to 5 percent mistakes are permissible. After the shorthand stage, candidates have to appear in the Main Descriptive Examination. It carries 100 marks and is conducted for 120 minutes. The paper includes Essay Writing, Letter Writing, Grammar and Comprehension, Hindi to English Translation and English to Hindi Translation. The final stage is an Interview of 15 marks.
Personal Assistant Selection Process
Personal Assistant candidates who qualify the English Typing Test have to appear for the English Shorthand Test at a speed of 100 words per minute. A 500-word passage is dictated in 5 minutes, followed by 45 minutes for transcription. The shorthand stage carries 110 marks and up to 5 percent mistakes are permissible. Candidates then appear for the Main Descriptive Examination of 100 marks and an Interview of 15 marks. The English Typing Test is qualifying in nature, while the marks obtained in the later stages are considered for final merit as per the prescribed selection scheme.
Vacancies and Basic Eligibility
The recruitment includes 117 vacancies for Senior Personal Assistant and 33 vacancies for Personal Assistant, making a total of 150 posts. For Senior Personal Assistant, a candidate must be a graduate from a recognised university and must possess English Shorthand speed of 110 WPM along with English Typing speed of 40 WPM. For Personal Assistant, graduation is required along with English Shorthand speed of 100 WPM and English Typing speed of 40 WPM. Candidates are also expected to have good working knowledge of computers. Applicants should always check the official Delhi High Court notification for category-wise eligibility, age conditions and other recruitment requirements.
How to Prepare for the Delhi High Court Typing Test
Candidates should first focus on accuracy and then gradually increase speed. A useful practice routine is to attempt at least one complete 10-minute test every day. Regular typing of legal vocabulary can significantly improve performance. Candidates should also reduce the habit of looking at the keyboard and try to maintain a consistent typing rhythm. A practical target is to remain comfortably above 40 WPM while keeping mistakes much lower than the permissible 3 percent limit. Continuous practice with legal passages, judgment-style text and serious English articles can help candidates become more confident and better prepared for the Delhi High Court PA and SPA English Typing Test.
